Seahawk Stadium & Exhibition Center - Seattle, WA Both roofs have a complex surface geometry and are comprised of two 720-foot-long steel arches tied with 130 post-tensioned strands that compositly act with a convex tri-chord stiffening steel truss to provide roof support. The arch is supported at each end with concrete pylons and floats on pedulum friction bearings. These bearings isolate the roof from the bowl structure and allow differential movement in excess of 20 inches during a severe seismic event. The roof has the largest deck cantilever of any NFL stadium and is the longest one-way roof span in the United States. This state-of-the-art structure required advanced computer analyses of various loading conditions and combinations that included construction loads, thermal loads, post-tensioning forces, and various snow patterns and wind pressures obtained from wind tunnel tests.
