Albertson's Retaining Wall - Bonney Lake, WA

Albertson's Retaining Wall Development of an 11-acre site, that included construction of a new Albertson's store, required lowering grades in the vicinity of an existing telecommunications tower by up to 18 feet. As-built plans indicated that the existing monopole tower was supported by a mat foundation measuring 20 feet square and 8 feet deep that was situated about 10 feet behind the alignment of a new retaining wall behind the future Albertson's store.

Construction of the planned combination conventional cast-in-place concrete wall and modular block wall would have required temporary open cuts that would have undermined the foundation of the tower. Consequently, a soldier pile wall was designed for a 60-foot long portion of the retaining wall in front of the tower. AMEC provided geotechnical design parameters to Bright Engineering that prepared the design and construction drawing for the soldier pile wall.
